Norma Slack
Norma is a mixed media artist based in County Down. She came to art later in life following a career in the caring professions. When she realised how important art was to her she dedicated time to learning and developing her skills. She has studied with a number of mentors including renowned international artist and teacher Nicholas Wilton.
Norma creates art to bring solace and peace to women who feel overwhelmed by life’s demands. Her work provides a quiet empathy for those feeling the weight of expectation that they should relinquish their dreams and desires to meet the needs of others.
Her process starts with photography. Immersing herself in nature and the landscape she captures images that inspire the stories and emotions embedded within each piece of art.
Back in the studio she builds up many layers of paint, often using unexpected colour as a reflection of her belief that there is more than one way to see and do things. She knows a painting is finished when it transports her to a feeling of peace and solace. Her art can bring that same feeling to your home and be a constant reminder that you don't have to earn the right to have the time to do the things you love.
