Heather Douglas
Born in Belfast, Heather is a visual artist ,with over 20 years of experience facilitating creative projects and coordinating programmes across Northern Ireland. From her early pastel portraits and textiles she is now exploring semi-abstraction, prioritising texture, colour, and materiality. Influenced by her career in fashion, her paintings are vibrant, textured and joyful. Her love of textiles shines through as she often prints her signature paintings onto fabrics, blending fine art with fiber.
Her approach to her art work is intuitive, she lets the painting take her on a journey, building layers with acrylics, mixed media and found objects, she uses colour to move the viewer's eye and texture to invite them in. Working from her Belfast studio, she is currently developing a new body of work investigating the physical and symbolic presence of the city’s Peace Walls, a series that bridges the gap between structured form and raw tactile expression.
Heather is an alumna of the Creative Visionary Programme and Find Your Joy and is a member of The Irish Palette, Art Tribe, and The Textures of Life Collective, with whom she will debut her latest series in an upcoming collaborative exhibition.
